Faces

“You think you know someone by looking at his face but what can one face say about the thousand thoughts behind those eyes.”
-Marianne Wiggins, The Shadow Catcher

On a moonlit night,
And a starry gaze,
My mind wandered..
Surrounded by a cloud of haze..

I thought of all the faces,
That people hide,
You never know,
When they’ve left your side..

As I traveled with you..
The layers went falling,
Couldn’t decide what’s true,
And what’s just false calling..

About the people,
I don’t know,
If they even remember what they are,
Beyond all the show..

But as we stroll down the shore,
And..
Your layers get washed away by the waves..
I hope you are something I’ve known all along,
Was hidden in those shadowy caves..
