The Daydreamer- V

So, here’s the last part of the story. If you haven’t read the earlier parts, I suggest you do.  🙂 Here are the links to them:

“What? You don’t remember going back home?” Asked Asmita, she couldn’t believe what she had heard. “No! I just remember a book falling on my head, and it still hurts!”

“Maybe you hit your head, while you were asleep, and that manifested into your dreams as if a book fell on your head? Gosh! You’ve started dreaming about him!” Asmita chuckled.

“Yeah, maybe that happened.” Not that satisfied with the explanation. The dream had felt too real to her. She walked home thinking about the turn of events. She entered her room and opened the closet to take out her diary. She was shocked to see what lay inside, it was the same box. The box she had been handed by Sohum. She couldn’t believe in her eyes, what she saw.

She asked her mother if anyone had been in her room, she shook her head.

“Asmita! Meet me at the park. It’s urgent.” She had called Asmita over her cellphone.

“This is the exact same box! I was not dreaming.” She said as they sat on the park bench.

“Are you sure? You don’t seem to remember yesterday’s events.” Asmita asked, somewhat worried about her.

“I am damn sure that this is the same box!” Netra replied. “Should I ask him about it? Maybe he will be able to shed some light on this?”

“Yeah, but how?”

“That’s his house right there.” Netra pointed at the old mansion that stood there.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!”

“What? Why!? I’m not joking, that is his house!”

“Netra, do you really think that house looks like someone lives there? And rumor has it that this house is haunted. No one lives there! Except maybe some ghost, he had a big library when he was alive, they say.”

“Yes, the person lived alone. They say he died as one of his bookshelves fell on him. He died due to late treatment. Wait!? A book fell on you!” Both of them exchanged terrifying looks.

“Who told you all this!?” Netra exclaimed. “Maybe it’s just a rumor, with no ounce of truth in it?”

“My neighbor told this story to me. He is an old man. He told me that his elder brother used to guard that house once.” Asmita replied. “I think we should go and ask him, maybe we’ll get some more information. Maybe someone has moved in..”

“Yes, please! Let’s go.” Said Netra. They went to the old man’s house. He received them pleasantly and asked about the purpose of their visit.

“Uncle, could you tell us about the mansion near the park? Has anyone moved in there yet?”

“No, we haven’t been able to find any buyers. The ghost chases away anyone who enters the house. It’s a tragedy.” He replied sadly.

“Ghost!!!?” They exclaimed.

“Yes, the person who lived there. He lived there alone, trying to protect his family’s heirloom. It’s a pity he died alone. There was no one to attend him when he fell.”

“Who was he? Do you remember his name?”

“Yes! I do! I may be old, but I have a memory as good as any of you. His name was Sohum.”

Did you like it? Yay or Nay? Please send me your thoughts about it. 😀

And have a nice day: 🙂 ❤

  1. I loved the story Sakshi. I read it one after the other and so did not have to wait in suspense. ( Thought I would have like to do that and make assumptions about the turn of events. )
Looking forward to reading more such stories..
